My Favorite Pieces in My Closet: The Art of Style
One of my favorite ways to express creativity is through style. There’s nothing that brings me more joy than putting together a good outfit. I think most people would consider my style fairly simple, but that’s exactly what I love about it, creating something cute, effortless, yet memorable.
Take a silk skirt, for example. You can throw on a graphic crop top and a pair of Converse for a casual vibe, or dress it up with a button-up (or is it button-down? Sorry, fashion enthusiasts, I still don’t know the difference! 😆) and some heels for a night-out look that kills.
I love how even the simplest outfit can be elevated with jewelry, a pearl necklace, a gold bracelet, and suddenly, you’ve got a look. ✨ And the best part? You don’t need to spend a fortune on designer labels to have amazing style. Fashion is all about making it your own, whether you go bold or understated. There are no rules!
One of my favorite ways to build my wardrobe is through thrifting, but I also love finding timeless staples from different places, pieces that simply fit my style, no matter where they come from. Whether it’s a thrifted gem or something I’ve had for years, certain items just become essentials. So today, I’m sharing some of my most cherished pieces, the ones I’ve worn over and over and will never part with.
🖤 Thrifted Button-Up Shirt
I found this cropped button-up at Goodwill, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. I’ve really grown to love oversized button-ups and long sleeves. This one is a men's XL from Van Heusen, and I love pairing it with my tan flared pants or a long black slit skirt for an upscale tomboy vibe. Because of its light olive color, I usually accessorize with gold jewelry. Honestly, thrift stores have the best men’s button-ups, and I can't wait to thrift more!
🖤 Cable Knit Midi Skirt from Burlington
This skirt is perfect for spring and cooler days! I love the cozy sweater-like texture and the classic cable knit pattern. The length is amazing, giving just the right balance of comfort and elegance. I tend to avoid skirts and dresses that are too short (not really my style), but I do keep a few hoochie dresses in case I’m feeling spicy. 🌶️😏
👖 Denim Maxi Skirt from Shein
Now, I don’t shop at Shein anymore, the prices are great, but I’d rather support other brands. That being said, I’ve had this denim maxi skirt for years, and I can’t see myself ever letting it go. It’s my go-to for spring and warm weather. I usually wear it with a crop top and either tennis shoes or sandals.
👜 Black Faux Pearl Bag from Burlington
This black bag is so subtle yet elegant with the faux pearl detailing. It’s my favorite for dressier outfits when I want to add a touch of sophistication.
🛍️ Tote Bag from Bad Girl Good Human
Sadly, this brand no longer sells physical items, which is such a bummer. 😭 But this tote is one of my absolute favorites. Totes are so versatile and stylish, and I love the mantra Good Girl, Bad Human, it perfectly captures the multifaceted nature of women. I hope to keep this bag forever.
🖤 Camouflage Jacket from @breewylde
I bought this secondhand from @breewylde on Instagram. She curates amazing thrifted finds and makes her own jewelry! The poem on the back of this jacket was written by her, and it’s such a beautiful example of how creatives can merge their passions. As a poet, I deeply appreciate this piece because it blends two of my favorite things, style and poetry. 📝💫
🖤 Houndstooth Capri Pants from Burlington
These capri pants are one of my favorite pairs ever! They’re high-waisted (which I love), super comfy, and really flattering. Some consider me plus-size, others say mid-size, I just know I have curves, and these pants enhance my natural shape beautifully. They’re technically more on the casual side, but I always dress them up with a cute top and heels to let them shine. Oh, and yes—they make my butt look amazing! 🍑😂
Wrapping It Up 🎀
So, these are just a few of my most cherished pieces, the ones I’ll never give up. I hope this was helpful (or at least fun to read)! Don’t be shy, share your thoughts in the comments, and save this post if it inspired you.
At the end of the day, fashion is just another form of creativity. It makes you feel good, it’s fun, and, just like poetry, it can be healing. ✨🖤
